The Plastic Surgery Institute offers our Beverly Hills and Los Angeles patients Fractional CO2 Laser treatment, the gold standard of skin-resurfacing treatments.
Our bodies are fantastic machines, and do an amazing job of healing and renewing themselves. Sometimes though, age can hinder its ability to keep skin at its best – age spots, discoloration, sun damage, they can all add up to be more than what the body can handle on its own. This is why The Plastic Surgery Institute provides our patients in Beverly Hills Fractional CO2 Laser treatments, offering long-lasting, painless, and immediate results of smooth skin.
Known as the primary anti-aging, skin rejuvenating non-surgical treatment, the Fractional CO2 laser procedure is the gold standard when it comes to skin-resurfacing procedures. It provides the best results for wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, and age spots.
The treatment works by emitting CO2 energy in the form of light energy beams, and when this light energy interacts with your skin, it can effectively penetrate the deeper layers of your skin. When the light reaches the treatment area, it damages small areas of old, already damaged skin. Your skin reacts to this by creating new, vibrant cells. The heat of the treatment will also stimulate collagen production, an essential component of youthful skin (it’s what keeps skin tight and firm, and provides elasticity).
Healthy patients who are seeking total skin rejuvenation, treatment of acne scars, age spots, skin laxity, or enlarged pores are all excellent candidates for fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. Patients with active inflammatory skin conditions may require treatment of these conditions before lasering, and those with very dark skin are not good candidates because of the risk of changing the skin’s native color.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
After discussing your treatment plan and skincare concerns with your practitioner at the time of your Beverly Hills fractional co2 laser consultation, we will begin your procedure with the use of a local anesthetic on the area to be treated. Next, the face will be properly cleaned and eye protection will be provided. The pulses from the laser may cause a slight stinging or burning sensation. Recovery time is approximately 2 weeks. During that time there may be slight swelling, the skin will look red, and skin will flake off.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT?
While the fractional CO2 laser treatments typically only cause mild discomfort, we do offer topical numbing creams to all patients prior to treatment. A topical numbing cream can take up to 45 minutes to take effect. We also offer the option of a mild sedative or narcotic prior to treatment. After the skin is numbed, we will focus the laser on the areas to be treated. The entire procedure will take about 1 hour and will have a ‘pins and needles’ sensation on the skin.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?
Redness of the skin may be present immediately after the treatment, which will last for about 24 hours. After receiving treatment with fractional c02 laser Beverly Hills patients should allow for about 3-5 days of downtime before resuming normal activities. The skin will begin to peel and then after 7 days, it will look pink. After about two weeks, the skin will enjoy optimal results from the fractional CO2 laser treatment. Post-treatment guidelines will be provided to the patient and sun exposure must be avoided. If sun exposure cannot be entirely avoided, we recommend using and reapplying sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher, as well as covering the area with a hat or clothing.
HOW DOES FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER TREATMENT WORK?
The technology of CO2 is that it delivers carbon dioxide energy through targeted pulses of light to remove the outer layer of skin, known as the epidermis. At the same time, the underlying skin, known as the dermis, is heated which stimulates the growth of collagen.

Patient Reviews
This is not an ideal treatment for skin of darker color. This is due to this procedure being more of an aggressive treatment that does result in prolonged healing of the surface. Pigmented skin tends to heal with hyperpigmentation, which does occur with this procedure fairly often. As such, it could take many months of topical treatments and sometimes additional laser treatments to correct this. If this treatment is to be undertaken on dark skin, it will need to be part of a series of gentler treatments and not a single treatment.
Incredibly significant and noticeable reduction in the components of sun-damaged skin such as sun freckles, liver spots, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, textural irregularities, dull tone, and a thinned collagen layer will be visible after the treatment. Your skin will continue to improve for a period of 6 months following the procedure, provided proper skincare is used and sun exposure is minimized. Sometimes the results may not be significant until the 6th or 9th month, depending on the patient’s age, their aftercare routine, and their history of smoking.
