The Plastic Surgery Institute offers our patients in Beverly Hills laser vein treatments to help improve the look of their legs, or to eliminate severe pain, skin problems, and blood clots due to varicose veins.
Varicose veins and spider veins can be painful, unsightly, and can pose a health risk. That is why The Plastic Surgery Institute provides our Beverly Hills and Los Angeles patients laser vein treatments, offering painless vein removal, resulting in smooth and flawless skin.
The laser vein treatment procedure is a quick, effective, and non-invasive procedure that uses a focused beam of light to heat and destroy affected veins, allowing them to ‘die off’ and be reabsorbed by the body.
The ideal candidate for laser vein treatment is in good overall health, does not smoke, and has realistic expectations for the procedure. It may also be the ideal option if you are allergic to the chemicals used in other procedures, or if you are afraid of needles – or, in rare cases, if your varicose or spider veins are too small to be injected.
You may not be an ideal candidate if you have certain medical conditions, if you are pregnant, or if you have tattoos in the areas to be treated. Contact our surgeons at The Plastic Surgery Institute to set up a consultation to see if this is the ideal solution for you!
Whether it is small broken capillaries or large varicose veins, we offer laser treatments that can target both situations. Depending on the type of blood vessels, our practitioner can examine and determine which laser vein treatment is best for a patient’s vascular concerns.
Our Alma Harmony IPL treatment is the primary option for small broken capillaries. Common areas include around the nose, cheeks, chin, and chest. A series of 3-5 treatments are usually needed at one month intervals. For larger vascular veins we use the MedioStar diode laser technology that delivers effective results, and is most commonly used to treat veins on the legs. An additional treatment may be needed for full results. During a laser vein treatment Beverly Hills patients will be given a pair of goggles to protect your eyes from the laser light. Next, one of our physicians will apply a cooling gel to the treatment areas, and the laser will be placed against the skin just above the spider veins. This laser’s heat then damages the vein to allow scar tissue to form – this scar tissue closes the vein. Once a vein is closed it loses its source of blood and dies off.
A laser vein treatment will typically last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, and requires only a local anesthetic. The laser light delivers just the right amount of energy, and the targeted tissue reacts with the light’s energy, causing the vein to seal shut.
The veins that are closed off are superficial veins that handle less than 5% of your blood flow – the blood is automatically rerouted to other areas. During the treatment, you may feel an unfamiliar sensation, though most patients report that it is not painful, but rather familiar to a light snap of a rubber band against the skin.

Patient Reviews
You will be able to (and are encouraged to) walk following the treatment, and as recovery time is typically short you are more than likely able to return to your normal daily routine after a simple laser treatment. After a treatment, compression garments should be worn for some time following the appointment for up to a week or more. A follow-up will usually involve the doctor utilizing ultrasound to verify that the vein is closing or has closed properly and completely.
Although varicose and spider veins are common and usually harmless, they can be irritating and embarrassing. Often, lifestyle changes and compression stockings would be the first method of staving off these enlarged and visible vessels.
However, when these methods fail to resolve the problem, laser vein treatments are the procedure that may be necessary. When laser energy is applied to the treatment area, it targets the pigment in the blood and heats the vessel without damaging the surrounding skin or tissue. Over time, the vein(s) will be reabsorbed by the body, effectively disappearing, allowing blood to be rerouted to healthier veins.
